This song is dedicated to and written for my beautiful students and powerful people whose names might not be easily found in the history books, the newspapers, and the songs on the radio; So, we honor those that came before us by celebrating their legacy in this song.

Shot at The Warehouse Gallery in Red Hook by Kamau Ware, the artwork, by Adrian Franks, highlights the "fearless" spirit of the civil rights activists in the 1960's which motivated us to create such a timeless piece. ENJOY! And remember, GREATNESS LIVES WITHIN YOUR SOUL!

I am a proud Kentuckian from Lexington and I learned the state song, "My Old Kentucky Home" at the tender age of 10. Later, in college, I read about the history of the actual song. The original line for, "In summer, the CHILDREN are gay" was "In summer, the DARKIES are gay" until 1990. So, I decided to reconstruct and deconstruct this song with my own Kentucky experience. Even though several hundred years ago, the degrading term "darkie" was commonplace, there was beauty that came out the perseverance and grit of our American and Kentuckian ancestors. I am from Kentucky. A brown girl from the bluegrass. I present to you, "Bluegrass Raised"
